Tour Opens 2010 Without Mickelson or Woods

Since SBS International signed up last May to replace Mercedes-Benz as title sponsor of the season opener for the PGA Tour as lot has changed, not the least being the consequences of Tiger Woods scandal on the Tour and golf in general.

But life and the Tour go on and the renamed SBS Championship starts Thursday in Hawaii on the Plantation Course at Kapalua Resort, Maui. This being a unique field in that only winners in the 2009 season are eligible but two of the biggest will be no shows.

A Life Lesson for Tiger

For several years he had been competing against national caliber players even taking home championship trophies and everyone talked about how he would win more than one of golf’s majors. Tiger Woods Birthday

So today is Tiger Woods 34th birthday and boy a lot has changed for him, his family, golf in general and the PGA Tour.

No need to recite all of his admitted “transgressions” again, however in all the media blather and posturing little attention has been paid to the effect of Tiger’s fall from grace on the companies who previously paid him hundreds of millions of dollars.

Mike Calef jumps on board at Brockton Country Club

The Brockton Country Club has appointed former Pro player, Mike Calef as the Director of Golf and Shop operations. Mike turned pro in 2003 where he traveled on the Hooters Tour before coming back home to play on the New England Pro Golf Tour before deciding to gain his amateur status after a three year run in the pros. In August the West Bridgewater native qualified for the US Amateur at Southern Hills CC.

MICHAEL SIM VOTED 2009 NATIONWIDE TOUR PLAYER OF THE YEAR BY FELLOW PLAYERS AFTER DOMINATING YEAR

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FL – Michael Sim of Perth, Australia has been voted 2009 Player of the Year on the Nationwide Tour by his fellow competitors. The 25-year-old will receive the Jack Nicklaus Trophy, symbolic of his selection as Nationwide Tour Player of the Year.

2009 WGAM ANNE MARIE TOBIN PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD

The Women’s Golf Association of Massachusetts has announced that Tara Joy Connelly from Cohasset Golf Club is the 2009 winner of the WGAM Anne Marie Tobin Player of the Year Award. This is the sixth overall win for Tara and the fifth consecutive year she has attained this honor. The selection process for the Player of the Year Award is based upon points issued for performance in WGAM events, USGA events, and certain other regional and national competitions. The WGAM will present this award to Tara at the Association’s Annual Meeting and Past Presidents’ Reception on December 8th at the Charles River Country Club.

 

Tara placed First in the Endicott Cup, Third in the Edith Noblit Baker tournament, Fourth in NEWGA, was a finalist in the WGAM State Amateur Championship, placed Third in the Grace Keyes Cup, and won the Massachusetts Women’s Open. She additionally earned points as a local and site qualifier and medalist in the U.S. Mid-Amateur and qualified for match play on-site.
