As the Atlanta Athletic Club prepares to host the 93rd PGA Championship this week, one has to believe that Bobby Jones would be quite pleased with the new look and condition of the Highlands course at Johns Creek, as well as with his old club’s growing prominence as a host of major championships.
When I say burning up, I mean temperature. The state of Mississippi has changed dramatically from what was depicted in the film Mississippi Burning, but it’s still stifling in summer. It’s the middle of July and it’s just plain hot and humid—not too steamy, though, to play a few of Mississippi’s wonderful golf courses.

His beady eyes leered lustily at the redhead. She was so nervous, she squawked. No, this was not a scene at the lobby Ibar, but in one of the many waterways at the PGA National Resort and Spa where a gator was scouting a common moorhen during our leisurely stroll on the spacious grounds. Unless you are a native Floridian, there is nothing common about the variety of beautiful birds in this sanctuary. On our return, both the bird and gator had disappeared, nature’s secret, much like the resort itself. Somewhat overlooked on lists, this is an over the top destination for any conference, family or friends to consider.
