Ok. Take two sisters who grew up on an Idaho potato farm with, what to supposedly sophisticated left and right coast fashion denizens, as seemingly unlikely interests—golf and apparel—and what do you get?

The answer is Haute Shot Golf.

Sisters JJ Winters and Julie Suitter started the company in 2011 and co-design fun fashionable golf skorts they pledge are, “never khaki and never tacky.”

“Golf, in particular for girls, has been drowning in boring vanilla style khaki, black, white and pastel pinks. (Gag!),” so say Winters and Suitter. “We kinda miss the good ol’ days of the 70’s when golf really WAS men in ugly pants walking. We long for the days of the fullClevelandlook of the patent leather white belts and matching white shoes. Golf was one sport where you could ride the fence between tacky and tasteful and be accepted if you fell on either side every once in awhile.”

Winters, Haute Shot’s CEO, is a fourth generation Idaho resident with a marketing degree from Boise State Univeristy earned cum laude and eight years ago began with sister Julie a successful management company. She loves adventure and flying and is a licensed pilot. Between her rounds of golf, playing to a 32 handicap, she is into snowboarding, wakeboarding and fashion in general.

Suitter is vice president and was awarded a degree in communications, also from BoiseStateUniversity. She co-owns the management company with JJ and says she is far more fashionable but interested in wakesurfing, working out, snowboarding, do hot yoga and is a killer poker player.

Whimsy is evident in Haute Shot’s line, both in the fabric designs and particularly in the names of the individual skorts: “Out Driving Miss Daisy”, “Ace In The Hole”, “Birds Of A Feather” and “Riding In Carts With Boys.”

As Haute Shot grows and gains visibility in the market expansion plans include more types of golf and sporting apparel for women.

As parting shot the ladies commented, “…in a sport dominated by dudes, we are proudly one of the only companies out there that are made for chicks, designed by chicks.”
