While Jimmy Walker was gaining all the publicity with his win at the PGA Championship across the continent another record event took place. Stephen Jaeger was setting the lowest score to par for 72 holes and the first 58 in a sanctioned Web.com Tour event while winning the Ellie Mae Classic in classic style at the TPC Stonebrae in Hayward, Calif.
Jaeger’s 58 came in the first round on Thursday with 12 birdies and six pars besting Russell Knox’s previous Web.com Tour record of 59 by holing a 10-foot birdie on the ninth hole, his last hole of the day. The record low score on the PGA Tour record is 59, which has been shot six times.
