New Weapons In The Artillery
We are less than a month into 2017 and Callaway is doing everything in their power to be the best golf company on the planet this year.
They are off to a pretty good start with the release of their new Big Bertha Epic driver and woods, new Mack Daddy wedges, new Odyssey O-Works putters and two new and improved balls the Chrome Soft X and Supersoft.
With all these new weapons in the artillery, Callaway is the early leader in new and improved golf equipment in 2017. This early charge may be the product of Nike stopping production of golf clubs so they may be using this as a way to get some of Nike’s golfers and add more Callaway staff guys.
The Big Bertha Epic is exactly what the name suggests, epic. This design is unlike any driver design we have seen up to this date. Using their new jailbreak technology which is two strong titanium posts behind the face inside the driver that are parallel to each other. Jailbreak Technology boosts ball speed, leading to a significant increase in distance off the tee. The Epic woods and drivers also feature Triaxial Carbon and a Titanium Exo-Cage. Triaxial Carbon is 65% lighter and nearly twice as strong, creating a lighter, more durable club. The Exo-Cage provides the driver with a more pleasing feel and sound at impact. With all this tech and eye catching green color, the Epic line is sure to be a hit on the Tour this season.
If you are going to be hitting the ball long with the Epic this season, you need a handy little short game tool to help you around the greens. And Callaway has exactly what you’re
looking for. “His extraordinary knowledge of all that’s necessary to bring a wedge from initial concept to finished club, is what makes the new Mack Daddy Forged wedges ultra-premium.” Says Alan Hocknell of Callaway when asked about Roger Cleveland, the designer of these new wedges. This new wedge includes a new 16 groove configuration that helps the player stop the ball easier on chip and pitch shots. It also has less of an offset, a squarer toe and a straight leading edge to create a great looking wedge, for your maybe not so great looking chip shots.
Now that you’re on the green, it’s time to miss some putts. Or maybe make a few with the new Odyssey O-Works putters. The putter comes in blade, mallet and fang styles. It includes a new Micro-Hinge technology with a hinge plate on the face of the putter that promotes almost twice as much forward-spin as Odyssey’s Fusion RX insert. It also helps start the ball rolling at immediate impact smoothly and accurately. It has a sleek black, white and red look and changeable weights on the bottom create for a great looking and performing putter for only $229.99, compared to a 300 to 400 dollar Scotty Cameron.
One of the most vital things in golf is the ball. And, you guessed it, Callaway has improved one of their most popular balls, the Supersoft, and developed a new Chrome Soft X ball that Callaway pros have been playing and love. Utilizing a new, soft core composition, the new and improved Supersoft will have less spin off the club face creating longer shots. With less spin comes less side spin naturally making your shots that much straighter. When it comes to the Chrome Soft X it is not for the weekend warrior. This ball is for the better golfer. “In Chrome Soft X we wanted to create a ball that does everything Chrome Soft does, but with a piercing trajectory and more workable ball flight desired by many Tour professionals and elite amateurs.” said Dave Bartels Callaway’s senior director of golf ball research and development.
With all these additions to the Callaway family, Callaway will surely have a step ahead of the competition. Callaway has recently signed Patrick Rodgers and Daniel Berger, along with Rory McIlroy gaming the Epic driver and Callaway blade irons.
