Everything Tiger Woods does draws attention but the too-numerous-to-count stories prior to, during and after the Quicken Loans National at the TPC Potomac analyzed ad nauseam the dropping of his trusty Scotty Cameron Newport 2 GSS putter for a TaylorMade TP Black Copper Collection Ardmore 3. Presumably the reason was outside of Woods and Ricky Fowler the field lacked all the other big names and could boast just three of the FedEx Points top 20 so there were evidentially no other stories worth covering.
The mallet-style Ardmore 3 has a polymer insert with 45-degree grooves that TMaG calls Pure Roll and the old Scotty Cameron did not have an insert which means the feel of the new Ardmore is drastically different. Going in to this week for the year Woods strokes gained putting was 89th and he was 37th in putts per round. For the four rounds of the Quicken Loan National, were he finished in a tie for fourth 10 shots behind the winner, he was 7th in strokes gained putting.

Previously we reported Titleist had revealed the new TS drivers to their Tour players at the U.S. Open and this past week at the Quicken Loans National Tour players got a look at the complimentary fairway woods. Following the pattern seen in the TS2 and TS3 drivers the TS3 fairway wood, replacing the 917F3, still has the reversible weight cartridge in the sole but the 917F2 replacement TS2 does not. More information and pricing should be released in the fall. At the Quicken Loans 15 players put the TS2 and TS3 fairways in play with 15 also putting either the TS2 or TS3 driver in the bag.
