The Claim: Starting New at Golf is a fun game that is easy to learn and can be played anywhere such as in the gym, on a soccer field or on the beach. SNAG is being used to introduce children to the game of golf at over 5000 schools in the U.S. and over 8000 worldwide. SNAG is played in a modified format that includes full shots, pitches, chipping and putting. Any age level or ability can learn the simple rules, terminology and learning techniques to build strong fundamentals of the different strokes /swings for an effective transition into the game of golf.
The Test: I was a SNAG coach for the golf class at a summer camp not to long ago using SNAG to teach the kids the basics of the game. SNAG features two clubs in the system The Roller and The Launcher to first teach the children the difference between a stroke and a swing as well as how to properly grip the club by placing their left thumb on yellow and their right thumb on right. In practice the children were taught how to line the small tennis ball up at the target by placing the ball on a tee matching the arrow on the ball to the arrow on the launch pad. They were then taught to roll the ball toward the Flagsticky with The Roller and to chip, pitch and launch the ball using The Launcher. Lastly they were taught that there were nine SNAGholes with point totals of 3, 4, 5 and 6. Each time they strike the ball with either club it was a point and the object was to complete each hole in the least amount of points as possible.
The Verdict: The SNAGsters understood how to hold the club very easily and quickly grasped that a stroke was used with The Roller and a swing was used for chipping, pitching and launching. The concept of points also made complete sense to the youngsters. I would recommend this game and learning system to any parent, gym teacher or golf professional who is serious about introducing children to the wonderful game of golf. A Player’s Pak, which includes a Roller, Launcher, Launch Pad, Balls and a Flagsticky can be purchased for just over $100. SNAG also offers full packages for schools to teach and play SNAG in gym classes as well. SNAG is without a doubt the ONLY way to learn the great game of golf because it is simple, fun and can be used virtually anywhere.
