The young South Korean Si Woo Kim may be a superstar in the making and if so his win of the Wyndham Championship played over historic Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. will be the first of many victories. After setting a course and tournament record 60 in Friday’s round the 21-year-old Kim out distanced the field for a five shot margin shooting rounds of 64 and 67 over the weekend.

Kim is a TaylorMade Golf staff player and used a TaylorMade M1 460 cc model set at 8.5 degrees with a MRC Diamana Blue S+ 70 shaft to average almost 307 yards off the tee while hitting the fairway three out of four tries. (Actual numbers–306.9 yards driving distance and 73.21 percent driving accuracy percentage)
He carries two M1 fairway woods: a 14 degree 3-wood with a Mitsubishi Diamana White D+ 80 shaft and an 18 degree 5-wood with a Matrix Speed RULZ 80 C shaft.

Kim’s irons are the TMaG Tour Preferred MBs (a model from 2014) 3-iron through 9-iron, all with KBS Tour V shafts. Using them he hit an extraordinary 83 percent of the greens which was the key to taking home the $1,008,000 check. There were three wedges in the bag all Titleist Vokey Design SM6 models: a 47 degree with F-Grind, a 53 degree M-Grind and a 59 degree J-Grind. Each has a KBS Tour V shaft.

For a putter, Kim uses an Odyssey Works #7 CH. The CH stands for “crank hosel” and the head is a modified mallet with weighted wings that help aligning the face to the intended line. The face has Odyssey’s Fusion RX insert, a combination of the White Hot insert that’s been popular for years with a stainless steel mesh that has an X-shaped pattern.

Kim teed up the TaylorMade Tour Preferred X golf ball which has 5 layers and was used by Justin Rose last week to win Olympic Gold.
