The Tour Championship at East Lake CC finished off the 2015-16 season and the two-week hiatus included the Ryder Cup but the PGA Tour starts for 2016-17 Thursday and Friday at the Safeway Open in Napa, Calif.

Even though the Tour was idle golf went on and, especially for Brandt Snedeker, this two week break has been great. First he was a member of the Team USA that won a decisive Ryder Cup victory then he beat up on the field in the Fiji International by nine shots, his first European Tour trophy.

The tournament, played on island’s Natadola Bay Golf Course, was co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour of Australasia and Snedeker’s winning margin was the biggest of the season.

Sneds is a member of the Bridgestone Golf endorsement staff and plays the 9.5 degree Bridgestone JGR driver with a Fujikura Speeder Evolution 661 X-Flex shaft. The variable thickness crown of the JGR is thin close to the clubface getting gradually thicker towards rear of the head. It flexes at impact to give a higher launch and increased spring-like effect especially above the center of the face where most players make contact with the ball.

There are two arc-shaped ridges inside the head to give more strength to the sole. This increases ball speed and the clubface has a proprietary milling to reduce spin, again to improve launch characteristics and produce more distance.

He plays the Bridgestone Tour B330 three-layer ball that was also new for 2016. The core is 6 percent larger and has what the company calls a SlipRes Cover. Besides having a feature that self-repairs minor scuffs the cover formulation has a high friction coefficient for lots of spin around the green without sacrificing spin from the rough and reducing spin off the driver.

Made for swing speeds over 105 mph there is a companion ball the B330S also for higher swing speeds but for those wanted additional spin for more control.
