Seacoast Golf on Cape Breton

Cape Breton Island, located on the northeastern tip of Nova Scotia, comprises about a fifth of the province’s total land mass and is linked to the mainland by a short causeway. Considering that Cape Breton Island is the birthplace of golf in Nova Scotia, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that some of the best golf courses in the province can be found on the island.

The most famous of Cape Breton’s golf courses, also known as the Spectacular Six, are: Cabot Links, Bell Bay Golf Club, Dundee Resort and Golf Club, Highlands Links, LePortage Golf Club, The Lakes Golf Club.

The Island’s newest course, Cabot Cliffs, located next to Cabot Links, celebrated its grand opening in the summer of 2016 and has already caught the attention of the golf world.

Cabot Links, situated on over a mile of sandy beach, along the breathtaking shoreline of Cape Breton Island, features 36 holes of exhilarating links golf with six holes playing directly alongside the water and every hole offering an ocean view. The beautiful Bell Bay Golf Club located in the quaint village of Baddeck, sits high above Cape Breton’s Inland sea, the Bras d’Or Lakes. Bell Bay offers panoramic views from virtually every hole; although, each hole has a distinctive element that makes it both unique and memorable, the final 4 holes have been called one of the best finishing sequences anywhere.

Dundee Resort and Golf Course with its amazing vistas and challenging world-class course, is the perfect location for golfers and their families. This championship 18-hole course designed by Robert Moote, is carved into the side of South Mountain in Dundee and provides compelling views of the Lake and the nearby marina. The course demands excellent control and shot placement.

A challenging course, Le Portage starts with 18 holes set on a plateau overlooking the Gulf of St. Lawrence and the beautiful Chéticamp mountains. A public golf course built and managed by the community of Chéticamp, “Le Portage” sits at the entrance of world famous Cabot Trail in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park.

The Lakes Golf Course

The Lakes Golf Club at Ben Eoin offers dramatic elevation changes and spectacular views of the beautiful Bras d’Or Lakes. Each hole has its own special look; Well-groomed fairways and greens keep The Lakes Golf course difficult, yet, friendly. The highlight of the course is the tee shot on the downhill, par four sixth hole.
