The Masters Is Right Around The Corner…

It’s the most wonderful time of the year.

Golf fans all around the world can smell the flowers and hear the roars of Augusta National already.

But with that comes some unknowns, some things we all want to know about this years Masters.

  1. Who isn’t going to play?

There are already strong doubts around Tiger and if he will play. The truth is, it doesn’t really matter. Yes, it would be nice to have the living legend in the field, but come on, you are crazy if you think he has a prayer at winning. The next name is Jason Day. One of the most dominant players on tour the past several years has been battling personal issues and is questionable this season. Would be a shame to have such a talented golfer miss this bug stage. Reports are if his mother’s surgery goes well, he may play.

  1. Who will win the par 3 contest?

After Jimmy Walker shot a historic 19 last season the par 3 contest, people may think he’s the favorite again. But the fan favorite event has only had one back-to-back winner so hypothetically the field is wide open. With his play of late it is hard to bet against Dustin Johnson at any competition that includes the word golf. Oh and his wife will most like be his caddy, so us viewers are winners also.

  1. Can Spieth get over last year?

We all know what happened last season, no need to revisit that. But if Spieth would have won last season, he would be going for his third green jacket in a row this year, something not even Woods or Arnold Palmer accomplished. But that sadly isn’t reality. The real question is, can he get No. 12 out of his head? It seems like he has played it a few times, including recently playing Augusta with Tom Brady and the CEO of Under Armour. My guess is he wont be too scared of Augusta come Masters week.

  1. Will azaleas be in bloom?

A few weeks back there was a report that the famous azaleas wouldn’t be in bloom in time. According to Gerald Stephens, an owner at Nurseries Caroliniana in North Augusta a recent cold front killed about 80-90% of the famous flowers in Augusta, that bloomed earlier than usual this year. This years Masters may be a little less colorful.

  1. Who the hell is going to win?

Vegas loves Dustin Johnson and Jordan Spieth, and for obvious reasons. But the way Justin Thomas has been playing this year, it is hard to count him out. And it is hard not to mention past winners (they obviously know how to win here Bubba Watson, Phil Mickelson and even Adam Scott. But it is hard not to love the guys who always seem to be right there Rory McIlroy, Rickie Fowler, Jon Rahm (lately) or even Hideki Matsuyama. Then you take into account that putting virtually wins you the green jacket, maybe a dark horse like Wesley Bryan should be on our radar.

No matter what happens, the 81st Masters is shaping up to be a legendary one, buckle up.
