In the past few days reports have been surfacing of who in all liklihood the US and European Ryder Cup Captains will be. The two leading candidates aren’t really surprising anyone (but do they really ever?), as both of their names have been thrown around for quite some time.
Team Euro will be captained by Jose Maria Olazabal, and will be officially announced as such in a press conference on January 18. This is a great selection and I don’t think there will be any arguments there. Olazabal will make a fantastic captain for the European team, and he brings plenty of experience as well as a firey competitive spirit to the table.
All signs are now pointing to Davis Love III as the US captain who has said he would love the opportunity if ever presented with it. DL3 was an assistant captain for Borey Pavin this past year at Celtic Manor, and before that selection he stated he was in fact shooting to make the team as a player.
Love has played in six previous Ryder Cups as well as six Presidents Cup, the last being in 2004, so he’s no stranger to the environment. The Golf Channel is reporting that the PGA of America will most likely make the official announcement some time in early 2011. Lets start the countdown clock to Medinah! Lets just hope Robin Love has better luck in picking rain gear.WHAT'S YOUR REACTION?
