Three Bay State golfers have punched their tickets to a national championship today after qualifying for the 2014 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship this morning at Duxbury Yacht Club.
Shannon Johnson (Foxborough, MA), Pam Kuong (Wellesley, MA) and Amy Dickison (Rowley, MA) captured three of the six qualifying spots that were up for grabs for Championship Proper, which will take place on September 6–11 at Harbour Trees GC in Noblesville, Indiana.
This marks the sixth time that Kuong has qualified for the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship. A senior vice president at Bank of America, Kuong is a decorated amateur competitor, having won the WGAM Amateur Championship twice and the New England Women’s Amateur once.
Earning medalist honors at Duxbury was Teresa Cleland (Syracuse, NY), who posted a 5-over par 77.
The real highlight of the day, however, took place on the 185-yard, par-3 17th hole, where Lisa McGill (Philadelphia, PA) made a hole in one, which helped propel her into a qualifying spot.
Rounding out the group of six qualifiers was Jen Holland (Branford, CT).
