The LPGA has some exciting news to announce. The Ladies Professional Golf Association’s Symetra Tour, which is a weeklong event celebrating women’s golf and the inaugural W.B. Mason Championship, will be hosted in Brockton for the first time in over two decades.
There will be a grand total of 144 players competing in the 54-hole tournament which can give players the chance of getting closer to earning an LPGA Tour Card.
“As I am pursuing that career to play on the LPGA full-time, it doesn’t happen without country clubs like this,” said Haley Millsap Italia, a player on the Symetra Tour.
The mayor of Brockton, Bill Carpenter, was thrilled about bringing the tour to his city. “I just want to express my personal thanks to W.B. Mason for making this possible, for bringing this event and tour here to Brockton, and Thorny Lea for hosting the event,” he said. “I think this is just another step in us recreating the image and perception of the city of Brockton. This is great for the city, it’s great for the club.”
Brockton is known and associated with a lot of sports but not necessarily golf. Now it’s time to change that!
