It was so great to see Team New England’s newest PGA Tour member Jon Curran’s T-8th finish in his PGA Tour debut at the Frys.com last week in Napa, CA. Curran was the low Tour rookie in the first of the 2014-15 PGA Tour season known as the Fall Series.

When Curran earned his PGA Tour playing privileges, I took a look as his overall playing statistics. I felt he would need to find a way to increase his driving distance while maintaining a respectable driving accuracy percentage if he expected to survive his first trip to golf’s major league.

I took a look at Jon’s stats, post Frys.com, and was even more delighted for the Hopkinton, MA native. Turns out Jon has increased his driving distance from 271 yards at the end of the 2014 Web.Com season to 292 yards last week. That driving stat ranks him 85th while his accuracy rank is 51st. GIR, (greens in regulation)? Curran is ranked #1 with a putting rank of 64th.

It’s a long road from the Hopkinton High School golf team to the PGA Tour but Jon has made it. He has at least one friend out there in former high school teammate Keegan Bradley. Curran was a junior the year Bradley, a senior, won the Massachusetts state championship by a whopping 28 shots. Jon finished in the top 3 that year.

Jon Curran showed the world last week he is more than ready to carry the mantle of PGA Tour player as demonstrated by his play and dedication to improve. It is that dedication that champions are made of.

Congratulations Jon and welcome to Team New England’s PGA Tour group for the 2014-15 season.
