With only 9 of 14 fairways hit in regulation somehow Rorry Mcllroy Found a way to hit 17 of 18 greens in regulation and made 6 birdies for the remarkable day 1 score of 65 at 6 under par. If you had stood next to the rough at 4-6 inches thick with no ball having any chance of sitting up you would realize how incredible this score was. After Rorry the leaderboard  has two players at 3 under and the next 18 the only players that broke par on day 1, which is not bad at all considering this is the US Open. If The USGA  gets greedy with the greens over the next few days they may have some problems because aprons and fringes are already showing considerable browning even after a day of off and on showers.

The majesty of the Open is apparent with huge crowds and some of the most impressive event management you will ever see at any event. Over 5000 volunteers are here to support golfs premier event at congressional. The USGA is here in force with staff making sure there are no stones left unturned. The coverage is truly international with almost every major country out there in golf represented.

While Phil had not to kind words for the 10th hole at Congressional a 200+ yard par 3 with a very difficult and small taget landing area on the green. Many a player dropped it short in the water or just came up a little short only to have it roll back into the water, Phil was the latter

Team New England Players had their hands full with Congressional but held their own as well. JJ Henry is close at just 1 over par and had a very steady round with 2 birds and 3 boogies. Tim Petrovich had issues with the rough and greens in regulation but came in just 4 over par which keeps him in the hunt for Friday. Geoff Sisk and Brad Adamonis both shot 77 which falls at 6 over par but certainly not out of the dance yet. Brad made what has to be the best save on the 18th after a bogie on the 17th. He drove it left 30 yards into the trees and made a remarkable shot surrounded by the crowd out and the got up and down for the par, it brought the house down!

Friday is said to bring more showers and much more humid temperatures and like all US Opens the course and the pin locations will only get tougher as the days roll on.
