The Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund’s Alumni Committee has created a group on the social networking site Facebook to help scholars from 1949 to 2009 and beyond connect on the web. As one of the top 5 viewed websites in the entire world, Facebook is being used as a resource by many organizations with Alumni. Never before has it been so simple to re-connect or stay connected with family, friends, and colleagues and The Fund’s Alumni are no exception.
For past and current Ouimet Scholars, being an Alumnus is an honor. It is a group made up of over 4,000 who have worked in the game of golf, and because of that have a special bond through The Fund. “So often is the case, especially in Massachusetts, where a person will apply for a job with the words Ouimet Scholar on their resume, only to find out their interviewer was also a Ouimet Scholar or is involved in some way with The Fund. It is in cases like that where the network really shines and just how much the reputation of our association means in the community,” said Jim Moriarty, Chair of the Alumni Committee. “This group will help us to connect with our fellow alumni, strengthening the association for future generations.”
The Ouimet Alumni Facebook page is a great way for Ouimet Scholars to socially or professionally link up with other Alumni. This group will also soon offer opportunities to volunteer, invitations to The Fund’s calendar of events, ways to update contact information and it now allows users to post comments, videos and pictures from recent alumni/Fund events. The group is nearly 200 members strong after invites began just before Christmas. In expanding this network, Alumni will expand the reach of The Fund’s message and Francis’ legacy.WHAT'S YOUR REACTION?
