The Championship, contested over the Old Course at St. Andrews, saw Uihlein miss from 15 feet on the final hole of regulation to send the event to sudden death. Both players made par on the first extra hole at St. Andrews of the overtime. The pair then moved to the 18th hole where Uihlein left his birdie putt from long range just inches short. Howell, who had lost four earlier play-offs, knocked in his 8 footer to claim the 2013 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship title. It was his first win in seven years.
Uihlein gained full status on the European Tour in May after his play and victory in at the Madeira Island Open-BPI- Portugal. That 2 shot victory vaulted Peter from the Challenge Tour, (European PGA’s developmental tour), to full status on the European PGA Tour. He also finished tied for tenth in the Scottish Open having been in contention until the last few holes. Uihlein is also in 10th place in the Race to Dubai, the equivalent of our four event tour play offs.
It truly has been a magical year for this New Bedford player who attended Oklahoma State University. Peter reached number one in the world amateur rankings and won the 2010 US Amateur Championship. We wish Peter luck the rest of this season and in the play offs.
