In 2006 the U.S, Assembled a Ryder Cup Team that traveled to the K Club in Ireland. The 2006 team captained by Tom Lehman was assembled with players such as Vaughn Taylor, Brett Wetterich, Scott Verplank, JJ Henry, Chris Demarco, Chad Campbell and also Furyk, Woods and Mickelson. It was a crushing defeat of 18.5 to 9.5 by Europe since the merge of Great Britain and Ireland with the Euros.
Tom Watson faces a very difficult task ahead to even be competitive in this years event. In the last 14 events the U.S record is 4 wins, 9 losses and one tie. In 2010 and 2012 at Medinah and Celtic Manor the U.S. had heartbreaking losses on the final day by just one point. Tiger Woods may have done Captain Watson a favor this week by pulling himself out of consideration for the three captains picks, but Watson still has tough choices to make with much less to choose from than European Captain Paul McGinley who has a multitude of solid players to choose from.
This year’s Ryder Cup team biggest opponent will be themselves and a lack of experience in match play on a world stage. This could be a disaster of epic proportion for the U.S Team this year.
After The Barclays Here are the Ryder Cup 9 and how they finished this week.
1. Bubba Watson — T30
2. Rickie Fowler — T9
3. Jim Furyk — 8th
4. Jimmy Walker — Missed Cut
5. Phil Mickelson — Made Cut, Did Not Finish

8. Patrick Reed — T9
9. Zach Johnson — T22
Possible Captain’s Picks:
Keegan Bradley – Bradley was a breakout star at the 2012 Ryder Cup. His 3-1-0 record was among the best on the U.S. squad and could influence Tom Watson this year.
Hunter Mahan – After Barclays Win he is a lock look for Watson to choose Mahan to add him to the rooster.
Brandt Snedeker- He seems like a wild-card front-runner but Watson will choose his team based on records and the immeasurable gut factor.
Other Front Runners – Brendon Todd, Webb Simpson, Bill Haas, and Ryan Moore are possible picks by the captain
