Former Red Sox ace and long-time Jimmy Fund supporter Tim Wakefield will
receive the 2014 Jimmy Award for his dedication to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund. Wakefield will receive this award and speak on Monday, October 6th at The International Golf Club in Bolton, Massachusetts at The Jimmy Fund Golf Classic.
Throughout the years, Wakefield served as a Jimmy Fund co-captain, visited adult and pediatric patients, met with Jimmy Fund Clinic teens during their annual Spring Training trips and appeared on the WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon.
The Jimmy Award that Wakefield is receiving was established in 1983 to honor celebrities who have, over the years, committed themselves to the mission of Dana-Farber and the Jimmy Fund. These extraordinary honorees have demonstrated their dedication to cancer research and the care of children and adults across New England and beyond through their endless support, encouragement, guidance, and friendship.
WEEI’s John Dennis will serve as emcee for the 32nd annual Jimmy Fund Golf Classic, which celebrates another season of raising funds on the greens for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. This annual event recognizes tournament organizers and sponsors who helped raise more than $6.4 million in 2014.
