What a hubbub over Bubba’s stance on the TPC Stadium course at the Waste Management Phoenix Open! He only said what others might feel about the costly renovations. It’s a great course in impeccable condition with some wow holes like 14, 17 and 18 but without the status of holding the most well attended and rowdiest PGA tour event, it might not rank as high on the Arizona golf list. Of course everyone seems to love controversy so local reporters took note of his vocalization and Bubba was booed in the 16th arena like a gladiator sentenced to death. He smartly soothed many of the fans by tossing them freebies – socks – ironically Stance socks.  He also apologized for his wording and clarified his stance, showing more love for the venue.

Bubba was not the only pro sporting Stance.  The colorful well structured socks are also the choice of David Feherty who made his live tournament debut at the Phoenix Open in and out of the NBC booth. The socks may have been soaked when he was doused with orange Gatorade in the same arena.

Meanwhile, Bubba’s buddy Rickie Fowler was tracking to win in his new Puma high top shoes. The luck of his Sunday orange didn’t hold out and after a four-hole playoff, he was heartbroken not to win for his flock of friends and family including his Japanese grandpa who introduced him to the game. More irony in Scottsdale – he lost to Hideki Matsuyama, representing Japan and sponsored by Srixon.

Devereux who relocated operations to Arizona had to be excited while Danny Lee donned their “Proper Threads,” leading the tournament for two days. 4th place still reaped him a $312k consolation check.

Of course Antigua Wear (an Arizona stronghold for over 35 years) was the most prolific apparel worn at the “People’s Major” as they continued providing shirts and jackets for 1000s of volunteers, and honorary observers. Their Illusion and Exceed shirts were layered with Ice jackets and Golf jackets in Pine Green because it is the greenest show as well as the greatest show on grass, thanks to sponsor Waste Management.

Over 618k well dressed fans made it out to the Waste Management Phoenix Open last week.  Who would have imagined a “trash company” could draw this styling crowd? Executive President and CEO David Steiner announced the commitment for another ten years and attendance is only expected to increase. Waste Management makes it fashionable to recycle, to be green, shooting for their fourth year of zero waste at this crowded party. Now that’s a great Stance.
