March-Championship-Grey-White2-3D-2-1024x690Myrtle Beach, S.C. – On March 6-8 this 54-Hole, Net Stroke Play Event will be hosting golfers from 24 states, Italy, Canada and United Kingdom for the second annual Myrtle Beach March Championship. The tournament will be featuring six Myrtle Beach area courses – Farmstead Golf Links, Hackler Course, Long Bay Club, Panther’s Run, Shaftesbury Glen and Wild Wing Avocet.

The Myrtle Beach March Championship is modeled after the Myrtle Beach World Amateur Handicap Championship, the game’s most popular single-site golf tournament. Participants will be placed into four flights based on age, gender   and verified USGA Handicap index and will play a different course each day.

March Champ1Tournament festivities begin with a Saturday night welcome party and conclude with an awards dinner on Tuesday evening. In addition to the opportunity to win some of the more than $10,000 in flight prizes and on-course contest awards that will be handed out, each participant will also receive a welcome gift. The lineup of Myrtle Beach golf courses was again a drawing card for the event. Farmstead is one home to one of America’s few par 6s, the 767-yard 18th hole, but the layout is a pleasure to play from the outset. The Hackler Course, which is owned by Coastal Carolina University, is one of the area’s hidden gems and home to outstanding MiniVerde Bermuda grass greens.

Long Bay, a Jack Nicklaus design, is one of the best and most memorable tests of golf along the Grand Strand, highlighted by the 10th hole, a short par 4 with the fairway surrounded on both sides by sand. Panther’s Run was the second of the Big Cats at Ocean Ridge Plantation, and the course continues to make golfers purr with delight.  Shaftesbury Glen, which just reopened after a renovation project that dramatically improved drainage and added 250,000+ square feet of waste bunkers, is an A.W. Tillinghast inspired design and a pleasure to play. The Avocet Course at Wild Wing was designed by major champion Larry Nelson and has long been one of Myrtle Beach’s most popular golf courses.
