Plan Your Next Vacation at Fort Walton

Set in the southern county of Okaloosa, along the sparkling Emerald Coast, Fort Walton Beach is one of the finest vacation spots in Florida.

Kick up the sugary white sand on the nearby beaches and you can see why this area is an annual trek for tourists. Visit nearby Okaloosa Island and the always-popular Air Force Armament Museum. Exceptional resort facilities provide comfy accommodations. Shoppers love the Uptown Station where there are over 60 national and regional stores and restaurants.

Fort Walton Beach Golf Club is one of the few 36-hole golf courses that is maintained and operated by a city. The two courses, Pines and Oaks are as different as their tree names.

The Pines at over 6800 yards is wider and more forgiving than the Oaks, which explains why the amount of play is twice as much as the Oaks.

The Oaks is a tighter, shot makers delight with narrow fairways at 6400 yards with multiple water hazards.

One of the more interesting holes is #5, a par 5. At 493 yards, it is considered a three shot hole because of the water hazard you have to carry to reach the green. #12, a par 3 on the Pines is similar with 140-yard carry over the water to a false front. The green is bowl shaped and undulated.

On the Oaks, the precarious #6 has a fairway split by water that continues to the 100-yard marker. Course knowledge is a must for the green is uphill and slightly blinded.

The par 4 #15 at 404 yards should favor a left side of fairway approach to another uphill green that slopes from back to front.

The golf club includes the Two Trees restaurant with daily specials and offers Junior golf programs for free.

According to Ron, the pro shop attendant as well as the starter, they provide rental clubs so there is no excuse.

All you need to pack for your Emerald Coast trip is a swimsuit, shorts, polo and shoes.
