Lehman Gets Ready To Post Another “Victory”

The Victory Course at Verrado Golf Club is Arizona’s new Rock Star, literally. Once a proving ground for Caterpillar heavy equipment, design star Tom Lehman has put that machinery to work mining a gem of a course out of the granite geology beneath the WhiteTank Mountains. It is truly a Victory for all.

Lehman’s design lays out an emerald carpet through the desert’s ebb and flow contouring, contrasting with the variegated colors of the natural mountain rock. Boulders and saguaros seamlessly blend into the picture throughout the golf course.

At the base of Tiger Mountain, a symphony of 17 holes crescendo to the signature 18th which is now the most dramatic finishing hole in the valley of the sun. Perched high on the hilltop overlooking a large lake, you might want to “waste a ball” from the tips just for the exhilaration. The fairway below runs parallel to the lake and climbs into a small box canyon concealing the green. As you shake hands with your group, turn around and marvel at the spectacle.

The 18th hole is a long par 4 over water to a tightly tucked green. The views are spectacular of the White Tank Mountains, the Victory Club and all of the West Valley.

The 55+ housing development at Verrado in Buckeye is unfolding beneath the shadows of The White Tank Mountains. It is a community like no other with a small town vibe that includes Main Street with chic lofts, apartments and restaurants. “Meet on Main” is becoming a mantra. Surrounding homes feature front porches for rocking chairs.

While very homey, Verrado has an upscale urban vibrancy as well with a resort quality spa and planned activities and concerts. The vineyard has been planted on the hillside approaching the course and when completed, The Cliff House will overlook the 18th hole with panoramic views. Put this Victory on your list along with the Founders’ Course at Verrado Golf Club for a great 36 the next time you fly into Phoenix.
