One of the Best New Courses in the World

Since opening in 2013, Florida’s Streamsong Resort has lured golfers from around the world to its secluded, picturesque surroundings in Central Florida. Easily accessible from Tampa and Orlando, Streamsong proudly introduces the all-new Streamsong® Black to its portfolio of top-rated courses. Debuting September 29th, Gil Hanse and his design team, one of the most sought after among course-architecture firms, completed the course design, which joins Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw’s Streamsong® Red and Tom Doak’s Streamsong® Blue, both among Golf Digest’s 100 Greatest.

“It’s the first opportunity we’ve had to put our work alongside the guys we respect the most in the business: Tom Doak and Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, says Hanse. “Whenever an owner is willing to give you your pick of around 800 acres and it’s all sand, that’s incredible. What is great about Red and Blue is that they routed them at the same time and they are coming led and wrap around each other and cross over each other. With the Black course, we are off on our own in a big landscape. Our land is not as dramatic as Red and Blue, but we have interesting land forms that the course runs through. Visually there is a lot of similarities between the courses, lots of sand, rough bunkers, but scale-wise is the big difference for Black.”

So what should we expect from Streamsong® Black?

Highly anticipated as one of the best new courses in the world, Streamsong® Black is a dazzling Par-73 championship layout offering breathtaking views of the vast landscape, which includes flowing elevation, and rolls, tumbles and sand ridges akin to the Sand Belt Region of Melbourne, Australia. This exciting new addition features The Gauntlet, a two-acre putting course, and The Roundabout, a free-flowing practice area. The Roundabout has six green complexes and a number of tee boxes, allowing golfers to play everything from 340-plus-yard par fours to short-game challenges with friends.

The course will play like a links course, firm and fast and with open green approaches that encourage running play. Length will range from around 5,000 yards to nearly 7,500. Streamsong® Black has three distinct regions. The 1st, 2nd, 10th and 11th holes are the Midlands, followed by the Ridge on holes 3 through 9, and finally 12 through 18 comprise the Glove, so-called because from above it looks like a hand. All three regions have their own look and feel, but the Ridge is the most visually impressive, playing through the massive dunes for which Blue and Red are famous.

Hanse was directed to create a different experience from Streamsong® Red and Streamsong® Blue, and he achieved that goal through the grand scale, difficulty and use of varying topography at the new course. Most notably is the way in which Hanse, and the rest of his team, were inspired by the look and feel of Australian Sand Belt courses and their bunkering to incorporate similar looks in Florida.
