The Noodle was one of the first truly long and soft golf balls made for those “recreational players” who just wanted a ball that was as long as any, didn’t feel like they were hitting a rock and whose price didn’t jeopardize payment of next month’s mortgage. From the first consumer trials in the summer of 2001, maker Maxfli, saw much the same success as the Bridgestone MC Lady had had, when male players found the ball gave them the distance and control they wanted.

TaylorMade Golf has owned the brand for several years and now relaunched it as the Noodle Neon with a choice of six eye-catching fluorescent colors, all with a matte finish. Ironically the price of $20 per dozen is the same as it was 18 years ago.

The Noodle Neon has a two-piece construction with a Surlyn cover for durability and TMaG’s patented REACT Core, still with a low compression at a lower-end-of-the-spectrum value of 62.

In the prerelease information Michael Fox, Category Director, Golf Balls & Accessories said, “The Noodle brand has helped millions of golfers have fun and play better as the original long and soft golf ball. The new Noodle Neon golf balls offer this iconic performance with a twist that creates greater visibility and more enjoyment that will last.”

TaylorMade took efforts to ensure the colors not only “popped” when the ball was fresh out of the package but formulated them for resistance to fading from the UV rays of the sun.

The Neon Noodle will be in retail shops on March 15 in Matte Lime Green & Matte Red as dozen ball packs while additional colors (Matte Pink, Matte Orange, Matte Blue & Matte Yellow) will be sold as mixed dozens.

Farmers Winner Jason Day: It took a six-hole playoff extending to Monday morning for Aussie Jason Day to beat Alex Noren at the Farmers Insurance Open but it gave TaylorMade their third win in the last four PGA Tour events. Day used TMaG’s new Twist Face M3 driver built to minimize hooks when impact is high on the toe and slices when impact is lower towards the heel. Hot Launch 3: Tour Edge is taking dead aim at the economy end of the market with the latest family of clubs called Hot Launch 3. Well made and designed, as all Tour Edge products, the pricing is especially attractive. The HL3 driver, in either standard or offset, with has a titanium variable thickness cup face, a channel in the sole behind the clubface for less spin and forgiveness plus a fixed rear sole weight to help move the center of gravity towards the rear of the head for higher launch is $189.99.


HL3 fairway woods, also in either standard or offset, are $139.99 with hybrids at $119.99. HL3 irons are $419.99 (steel shafts) and $489.99 with graphite. Scotty Cameron Select: Seven familiar Select family models return for 2018 with refined contours, improved sound and four-way balanced soles for easier alignment. King Black: Cobra has brought to market the new King Black and King Black ONE Length wedges of 8629 carbon steel with a Dimonized Black Metal finish and Cobra Connect by Arccos built in. Priced at $149 in regular length or a single length (7-iron) in a choice of lofts from 50 to 60 degrees and three grinds—Versatile, Classic and WideLow.

Vokey SM 7: The latest iteration of the Spin Milled wedges from Bob Vokey offer six sole grinds for any turf condition. All have his progressive CG placement and there are 23 different combinations of lofts, bounces and grinds plus three different finishes. Available March 9 for $149.

TMaG Hi-Toe: The Milled Grind Hi-Toe wedges have found immediate acceptance on Tour being used by among others Dustin Johnson, Justin Rose, Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm. With a higher center of gravity closer to the impact area the new Hi-Toe wedge launches the golf ball lower while generating more spin and control from a variety of lies. The finish is aged copper, grooves are TaylorMade ZTP-17 configuration and lofts choices are 58, 60 and 64-degrees. In golf shops March 2, the price is $169.

New Golf Balls from Titleist: The Titleist Velocity ($26.99 dozen) and Tour Soft ($34.99 dozen) are now available. The Velocity updates the previous model and has a softer core, cover and dimple pattern with three color choices – VISI-white, Velocity Orange and Velocity Pink. The Tour Soft replaces the NXT Tour and NXT Tour Soft and has the largest core they have every made in any ball and Titleist reports it is “the softest-feeling golf ball in its category.” The cover is made with a thin TCU Process Technology and has new 342-dimple pattern.
