Wedge guru Roger Cleveland, Callaway’s Chief Wedge Designer, and their R&D department say they have created a new groove configuration that takes spin and control to the next level for the new MD5 wedges. Called JAWS MD5 the grooves are a departure from the old MD4 with the walls, edges and angles milled to give very sharp edges at the tightest tolerances Callaway has ever been able to produce.

Specifically, the grooves on the JAWS MD5 have a 37º wall angle, a huge difference compared with the 5º used in MD4 and this means the groove edge can better grab the ball for more control from all types of lies. Testing by Callaway showed the JAWS grooves are particularly effective from 80 yards and in, producing the desired “one hop and stop” trajectory.
