Timber Stone, in the beautiful forests of Upper Michigan is part of Pine Mountain Ski and Golf Resort, a premier four-season destination. You know you have arrived when the gigantic ski jump jumps out of the landscape on Highway 2.
The Timber Stone golf course travels through the woods with deer galleries watching golfers. The final holes are a pretty trio from 16’s “Sling Shot” to 17’s “Sagola” with a highly elevated tee box and 18’s “Double Black” bringing you home. Using the demanding term for a ski run, 18 does provide a challenge seen as soon as you enter the parking lot. You might think that in the winter cross country skiers would take over the fairways but there are plenty of other designated trails for that. Timber Stone Golf Course is already closed for this season, but skiers are welcome to Pine Mountain and there is ample time to plan a golf trip for spring.

Celebrating 80 years, the ski resort was originated by Fred Pabst, owner of Pabst Blue Ribbon. While in the area, we enjoyed the Widow Maker Black Ale on tap, not so much for the name but for the sweet/stout flavor in the Keweenaw Brewing Company’s beer. It is served in most establishments including Famers Restaurant in the Pine Mountain lodge where hall of famer photos line the walls. Breakfast, lunch and dinner menus are extensive, and all the grub is good but don’t miss out on the Walleye when in Michigan.

Stay at the resort or take a day trip from many other fun towns such as Escanaba, home to Islands Casino Resort and Spa with two great courses or Marquette on the shore of Lake Superior, home to the highly awarded Greywalls Course at Marquette Golf Club. Green Bay, Wisconsin golfers are frequent visitors so why not visit there and make it a more fabulous day with a game at Lambeau Field. Upper Michigan is filled with superb scenery and golf. www.michigan.org/golfing
