WHAT'S YOUR REACTION?

Pre-shot routines are an outstanding way to make sure that you are focused, confident and prepared before every shot. It is important to create a pre-shot routine that works best for you, especially since everyone has their own unique style to golfing. Every person requires different physical and mental preparation to play their best game and be the most successful. If you need some help getting started on creating your pre-shot routine, here are a couple of tips:

  • Know your target. Having a strong, targeted aim is vital to a successful shot. Visualize the course if you have been before, and, if you have not, look at your surroundings to know exactly where the hole is and where you should be aiming your shot. Take time to focus on the hole with no distractions so you can properly set up.
  • Be aware of potential “roadblocks.” As you are checking out your surroundings on the course, make sure that you are fully aware of any issues that you may face throughout your shot. For example, where can your ball go out of bounds? Are there any bodies of water nearby that you will need to actively work to avoid?
  • Don’t forget about environmental factors. Different environmental factors such as the weather and layout of the course can also affect your shot. For example, are you making your shot uphill or downhill? This will greatly affect your grip and the amount of speed that you will need. Next, notice what the weather is like. If it is windy, notice which way the wind is blowing so you know where to aim, and how strong of a shot you will need.
