When the going gets tough, go to Los Cabos for an escape.

We tried this a decade ago when an IT issue rendered business impossible for a few days. A quick web search at the time yielded our first Los Cabos vacation and it was amazing.

We had enough cell service there to handle urgent calls and the rest of the time we golfed, snorkeled, relaxed on the beach, and enjoyed the flavorful culinary scene. Since then, we have made several more escapes to the laid-back world at “Land’s End,” the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula, and we have never been disappointed.

Currently Los Cabos boasts 18 golf courses with more on the way.

Some are accessible to all public play while some are reserved for members or guests of private resorts such as Chileno Bay Golf and Beach Club.

Set in the “upcountry”, high above the Sea of Cortez in the desert foothills, Tom Fazio designed the course flow to mimic the ocean waves. Only guests of the Chileno Bay Resort & Residences, part of the prestigious Auberge Resorts Collection, may play alongside distinguished members.

The course is pristine with back-to-back par 5s and two comfort stations for snacks and grill food. Golf is at leisure to enjoy the stations as well as the challenging holes and magnificent scenery.

The Cabos resort is strategically placed on a beautiful beach front with swimmable waters. This is special to note since many locations on the peninsula are not swimmable due to heavy currents.

You cannot go wrong with any of the beautiful resort options but if you prefer a boutique hotel experience, we highly recommend The Cape, A Thompson Hotel.

For exclusive modern luxury, The Cape, A Thompson Hotel is positioned in a surfer’s cove encircled by a rich hilly enclave with a sunrise/sunset view of the famous Arch and lover’s beach. All rooms overlook the ocean. Bed swings on the balcony are a comfy way to watch the show below or the brilliant stars above. Breakfast begins with surfers entertaining while dining at the Ledge.

Next door, the workout room has a floor to ceiling window for an inspiring view to get you moving. Fitness classes are included. Lounge at the infinity pool, lean over the edge or have a seat at the swim up bar. Watch the boats pass by as pelicans dive and parasails float in the sky.

At sunset, head to The Rooftop, a garden terrace with a stunning view of the Arch and downtown lights. It gives new meaning to happy hour. Dine here or at Manta.

There is always something special happening at this extraordinary boutique hotel, minutes to downtown Cabo San Lucas and the Mercado Marina. That is where the richest trophy-fishing tournament awards a $2m+ prize.

Tours and golf outings may be arranged by the concierge. Sail or boat around the Arch, snorkel, dive, fish, and whale watch from any point during season, which is early December to mid-April.
